Rules and tips for Spain

  • Self-employed professionals (autónomos) invoicing Spanish businesses usually apply IRPF withholding (generally 15%, 7% in the first years of activity).
  • Simplified invoices (factura simplificada) are allowed up to €400 incl. VAT (up to €3,000 in certain retail sectors).
  • VERI*FACTU rules require invoicing software that records and can report every invoice to the tax agency; after postponements the obligation is currently scheduled for 2027. Mandatory B2B e-invoicing is also planned under the “Crea y Crece” law.
  • The Canary Islands use IGIC instead of IVA, and Ceuta and Melilla use IPSI.
  • Keep invoices for at least 4 years for tax purposes and 6 years under the Commercial Code.
