Architect invoicing tips

  1. Invoice by design phase (schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration) as set out in your agreement.
  2. Show percentage complete and amounts previously billed for each phase so the client can follow progress.
  3. List reimbursables (printing, permit fees, consultant fees, travel) separately and state any markup.
  4. Bill client-requested changes outside the agreed scope as additional services — reference the written authorization.
  5. Keep a running total of the contract fee, billed to date and remaining balance on every invoice.
